Museum History

The Makhambet Utemisuly Historical and Cultural Museum-Reserve was established in 2012 as a branch of the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore and was officially opened in 2013, on the occasion of the 210th anniversary of the birth of the great poet.

The total area of the museum building is 24 square meters. The museum’s collection numbers 159 exhibits, including archival documents, valuable books, materials about the life and heroic deeds of the batyr, as well as exhibitions dedicated to his art, works, and the laureates of the Makhambet Prize.

Today, the museum’s team carries out active work to popularize the heritage of Makhambet Utemisuly among the residents of the region, districts, and villages, as well as among visitors from outside the area, fostering respect for his legacy and creativity in the younger generation.

The mausoleum of the batyr, located in the Karoi area, was built in 1992 as an integral part of the museum-reserve. Visitors from all over Kazakhstan and abroad frequently come here to honor the memory of this great son of the people.
