The Khamit Yergaliyev Museum is a literature-oriented cultural institution dedicated to the life and creative legacy of the poet.
Its history dates back to the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated May 22, 1998, No. 466 “On Commemorating the Poet Khamit Yergaliyev.” The museum was solemnly opened in 2006 to mark the 90th anniversary of the birth of the great poet.
The total area of the museum is 88.8 square meters. At present, its collection holds 454 exhibits.
The main purpose of the museum is to pass on the rich spiritual heritage of Khamit Yergaliyev to future generations, to foster young people’s interest in literature, to promote the works of this prominent representative of Kazakh poetry, and to contribute to patriotic, cultural, and spiritual education.
The exhibition displays the personal belongings of People’s Writer Khamit Yergaliyev, photographs and documents related to his creative path, poetic works and translations, as well as valuable materials and information about his place in the history of Kazakh literature.
The exhibition structure consists of 7 showcases:
- The first showcase presents photographs of K. Yergaliyev when he left for the front as a squadron commander and upon his return from the war, as well as his wartime orders and medals.
- The second showcase is dedicated to photographs of the poet with his contemporaries — writers and poets — along with his festive congratulatory letters.
- The third showcase tells the story of the opening of the museum, illustrating its stages through official documents and photographic materials.
- In the central part of the exhibition are personal photographs of the poet with his family members, along with his everyday belongings and clothing.
- The fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh showcases are devoted to the poet’s creative legacy: poetry collections published in different years, translations, and articles printed in periodicals.
The K. Yergaliyev Museum is not only a place of remembrance but also a spiritual and cultural center pointing the way into the future. Today it plays a special role in popularizing national literature and culture, in educating the younger generation, and in preserving priceless heritage. For literature lovers, the museum serves as an important center of spiritual enrichment and knowledge.
