HISTORICAL AND TOPONYMIC EXPEDITION LAUNCHED IN KYZYLKOGA DISTRICT
The Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore has launched a historical and toponymic expedition in Kyzylkoga District. The main objective of the expedition is to study the historical names of local places and water bodies in the district, determine their origins and historical significance, and collect and scientifically document information preserved in local oral tradition.
The expedition team includes S. Kuanysh, Candidate of Historical Sciences and Associate Professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and World History at H. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University; A. Zhumagaziyev, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Geography and Tourism at H. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University and Master’s degree holder; S. Gazimova, Deputy Director of the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, Head of the Expedition, and Master’s degree holder; E. Tlekkabylov, Head of the Department of Research Support for Modern History and Master’s degree holder; R. Kuanov, Specialist of the Department of Archaeological Research Support and Master’s degree holder; and A. Tusipkaliyeva and D. Satimova, specialists of the Department of Research Support for Modern History.
The expedition was officially welcomed by Zharas Magazuly Yessengaliyev, Deputy Akim of Kyzylkoga District. During the meeting, the participants discussed the expedition’s objectives, research areas, and planned field routes in detail.
On the first day, in accordance with the expedition’s work plan, the team met with respected elders of the Miyaly Rural District and local experts on regional history – Zh. Mukhanbetov, K. Khasanov, T. Kumargaliyev, Zh. Turdagaliyev, N. Rakhimov, S. Gabdullin, S. Yakup, A. Izimova, and B. Kaziyev – who shared valuable information about the district’s historical toponyms.
HISTORICAL AND TOPONYMIC EXPEDITION IN KYZYLKOGA DISTRICT CONTINUES
The historical and toponymic expedition organized by the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore continues its research in Kyzylkoga District.
Today, the expedition participants carried out research on the historical names of local places and water bodies in the Zhangeldin and Oyyl Rural Districts, as well as in the surrounding territories. According to the expedition’s work plan, the team met with local elders and experts on the region’s history, collecting valuable information about the historical and geographical heritage of the area.
During these meetings, village elders shared their knowledge of the origins of geographical names, the circumstances of their formation, and their historical significance. The collected materials will serve as an important source for future scholarly research and for the study of the region’s historical and cultural heritage.
As part of the expedition, research was conducted in the villages of Zhangeldin, Zhaskairat, and Akkora in Kyzylkoga District, successfully completing the first stage of the fieldwork. During the research, new information was gathered on the origins of local toponyms, while legends, oral traditions, and historical accounts preserved through generations were recorded during interviews with local residents.
The staff of the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore express their sincere gratitude to the village elders and residents who actively participated in the expedition and shared valuable historical information. The historical and toponymic expedition will continue its work in other settlements of Kyzylkoga District.
The historical and toponymic expedition organized by the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore has also successfully completed its research in the Sagiz and Mukur Rural Districts of Kyzylkoga District.
The primary objective of the expedition was to investigate the origins and historical significance of ancient geographical names and to collect and scientifically document the variants preserved in local oral tradition. During the research, approximately 30 settlements were surveyed, and interviews were conducted with more than 70 village elders and local residents. In addition, around 30 historical settlements and ancient habitation sites were examined.
The research combined the analysis of cartographic materials with field investigations. During the expedition, a considerable amount of valuable information was collected regarding the Taisoygan sand massif and the Kyzylkoga region.
The expedition also continued its work in the Tasshagyl and Kozdykara Rural Districts of Kyzylkoga District, conducting research in the villages of Tasshagyl, Konystanu, Buiyrek, and Koskulak.
Every hill, river, lake, winter camp, and well in this region is closely connected with ancient history and legends preserved in the collective memory of the local people.
The materials collected during the expedition will form the basis for future scientific research, enrich the museum’s collections, and contribute to the continued study and preservation of the historical heritage of the region.
