“Historical Photographs of Atyrau” Exhibition Opens
Today, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore opened a temporary photographic exhibition entitled “Historical Photographs of Atyrau”, dedicated to Republic Day.
The exhibition features historical photographs and postcards preserved in the museum’s collection. It covers three thematic areas: “The History of Bridges along the Zhaiyk River”, “The Architecture and Historical Appearance of Old Guryev”, and “Public and Social Facilities of Historical Guryev”. The exhibits depict the city’s former architectural appearance, the history of bridges across the Zhaiyk River, and changes in public buildings and the city’s social life.
The exhibition was visited by heads of government institutions, members of the intellectual community, university scholars, historians, local history researchers, and journalists. Through the historical photographic materials, visitors learned about everyday life in old Guryev, the stages of the city’s development, and its historical and cultural heritage.
At the opening ceremony, Mukhambetkali Kuanyshkaliuly Kipiev, Head of the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore, delivered a speech highlighting the importance of preserving and promoting historical heritage. Erlan Konyskereyuly, Head of the Museum’s Department for the Scientific Study of Modern History, spoke about the exhibition’s content and historical significance.
The historical photographs preserved in the museum’s collection are valuable sources that tell the story of the city’s past and contribute to preserving the region’s historical memory. The exhibition aims to broaden public understanding of Atyrau’s history, strengthen respect for the cultural heritage of the local region, and foster continuity between generations.
