Temporary Exhibition “The Northern Caspian Lowland in the Early Iron Age”
On April 23, 2026, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore hosted the opening of the temporary exhibition “The Northern Caspian Lowland in the Early Iron Age.”
The opening ceremony was conducted by the museum director, M. Kipiyev, who emphasized the importance of archaeological excavations in the study of the region’s history.
The exhibition featured unique archaeological artifacts discovered in 2025 in Burials No. 5 and No. 10 of the Karabau-2 burial mound. Among the exhibits were bronze ornaments with gold overlays, bracelets, ceramic vessels, household items, divination stones, and weapons dating to the 4th-3rd centuries BC.
The exhibition also included accidental finds uncovered as a result of wind erosion. These featured flint knives characteristic of the Khvalynsk culture, beads made from Dentalium mollusk shells, and stone bracelets.
During the exhibition, G. Bazarbayev, Head of the Museum’s Archaeological Research Department, provided visitors with detailed information about the historical significance of the artifacts and answered their questions.
The event was attended by first-year History students from Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University, museum staff, and guests of the city.
