Temporary exhibition “An outstanding figure of legal science” dedicated to the 105th anniversary of Doctor of Law, Professor Salyk Zimanovich Zimanov
On February 25, 2026, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore opened the temporary exhibition “An outstanding figure of legal science,” dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the birth of Salyk Zimanovich Zimanov – a statesman and public figure, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Honored Scientist of Kazakhstan.
The educational event was organized to introduce the public to the documents and scientific works of the scholar preserved in the museum’s collections, as well as to historical photographs reflecting his personality. The main purpose of the exhibition is to encourage the younger generation to pursue knowledge and science, promote a patriotic spirit, and popularize the public and political activities of the outstanding scholar.
Salyk Zimanovich Zimanov was an outstanding legal scholar who made an invaluable contribution to the formation and strengthening of Kazakh statehood. He chaired the commission responsible for drafting the “Declaration on the State Sovereignty of the Kazakh SSR” and directly led the adoption of this historic document. In addition, he headed the commission that drafted the 1991 Constitutional Law “On the state independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan” and led the expert group that prepared the draft of the first Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1993. His scholarly legacy and state-minded position played an important role in shaping the legal foundations of independent Kazakhstan.
The exhibition features photographs of the scholar taken in 1942 at the Sukhumi Military School with his fellow cadets, photographs from meetings with his comrades-in-arms of the 615th mortar regiment, historical materials reflecting the periods of his teaching and parliamentary activities, as well as family photographs and pictures with his fellow academicians. Visitors were also presented with his doctoral and professorial diplomas, the certificate of Academician of the National Academy of Sciences, and a copy of the 2001 decision awarding him the title of “Honorary Citizen of Atyrau Region.”
The event was attended by military historian and local historian Zh. Dospanov and Zh. Shayakhmetova, Associate Professor at Kh. Dosmukhamedov Atyrau University and candidate of law. They shared their memories of S. Zimanov’s profound knowledge and wisdom, as well as his invaluable service for the future of the country.
