Temporary exhibition “A figure who glorified the sacredness of kuy,” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the People's Artist of Kazakhstan, outstanding conductor and kuyshi Rysbai Khismetollauly Gabdiyev
On February 17, 2026, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore organized the temporary exhibition “A figure who glorified the sacredness of kuy,” dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of the People's Artist of Kazakhstan, kuyshi-conductor R. Gabdiyev.
The purpose of the event was to promote the artist’s contribution to the development of the region’s culture, to familiarize the public with his creative legacy, and to foster patriotism and diligence among the younger generation.
The exhibition presented the life and creative career of R. Gabdiyev. Visitors were introduced to materials covering his biography, teaching activities, mentorship of students, and the repertoire of kuys he performed through slides and video presentations. In addition, information was provided on the history of the creation of Kurmangazy’s kuy “Kairan Sheshem” (“My Dear Mother”).
Specially invited guests shared their memories of the distinguished artist and expressed warm words of appreciation for his contribution to culture. Musicians and students performed dombra kuys from R. Gabdiyev’s repertoire, providing the audience with a memorable spiritual and artistic experience.
The exhibition was attended by R. Gabdiyev’s sons – dombra player Arystanbek Gabdiyev and Honored Worker of Kazakhstan Mukadas Gabdiyev – as well as representatives of the cultural and artistic community. Among them were N. Utegaziyev, a performer with the Dina Nurpeisova Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments; E. Kitarov, Chief Conductor of the “Naryn” Orchestra of the N. Zhanturin Regional Philharmonic; and N. Nazhekenov and B. Karimov, laureates of international and national competitions.
The audience included lecturers and students of the Dombra Department of the Atyrau Music College – Academy of Folk Music named after Dina Nurpeisova, as well as museum staff. During the event, the kuys “Kairan Sheshem” and “Teriskakpai” by Kurmangazy, “Kos Ishek” by Dauletkerey, and “Shalkyma” by Zhantore were performed. In addition, visitors were introduced to the museum’s permanent exhibition dedicated to R. Gabdiyev, located in the “Culture and Literature of the Region” hall.
