Temporary exhibition “Footwear as a reflection of everyday life and culture”



On February 4, 2026, the Atyrau Regional Museum of History and Local Lore organized a temporary exhibition entitled “Footwear as a reflection of everyday life and culture,” featuring items from the museum’s footwear collection.

The purpose of the event was to introduce visitors to the footwear collection preserved in the museum’s holdings, provide information about its origins, types, distinctive features, methods of use and production, and demonstrate the importance of footwear as a cultural heritage reflecting the daily life and worldview of the people.

The exhibition featured footwear dating from the 19th and 20th centuries, preserved in the museum collection and acquired over the years from private individuals, institutions, and organizations, as well as collected during ethnographic expeditions. In total, approximately 24 types of footwear were presented to visitors.

The exhibition displayed leather kebis and masi shoes, shonkayma boots, decorative and stage boots adorned with traditional ornaments, women’s heeled boots, men’s saptama boots, kirza and rubber boots, ornamented Bashkir boots, felt slippers, and moccasins. In addition, personal belongings of prominent figures were exhibited, including the footwear of the People’s Writer of Kazakhstan Fariza Ongarsynova, the People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Roza Rymbayeva, and public figure Mariyam Sabyrkyzy. Additional information about footwear displayed in the museum’s permanent exhibition showcases was presented through a slide presentation. Among the items featured were the stage footwear of renowned Kazakh actor Nurmukhan Zhanturin, the boots of People’s Artist of Kazakhstan Anuar Eskaliyev, and other valuable artifacts.

The event was attended by students and teachers of the Y. Altynsarin Secondary School and Abai Secondary School No. 15, as well as museum staff members.
