The international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the medieval history of the Atyrau region on the topic «History of the cities of Aktobe - Laeti and Atyrau: a new perspective» took place

With the support of Akimat of Atyrau region, the Department of culture and language development of Atyrau region, and Atyrau regional local history museum, the international scientific-practical conference dedicated to the medieval history of Atyrau region on the topic "History of the cities of Aktobe-Laeti and Atyrau: a new perspective" took place.

The conference aimed to introduce into scholarly discourse the latest research findings regarding settlements that emerged in the northeast of the Caspian sea during the JochiUlus period. It sought to form a new perspective to determine the historical connection between the medieval settlement of Aktobe-Laeti and the modern city of Atyrau.

The conference's agenda encompassed the following areas:

History and historiography of research on medieval monuments in the northeast of the Caspian sea.
Monuments from the JochiUlus period in the northeast of the Caspian sea based on archaeological research.
Aktobe-Laeti: a major medieval city at the mouth of the Uralriver.
The history of the city of Atyrau and its historical connection to the medieval settlement of Aktobe-Laeti.

The conference was inaugurated with opening remarks by the head of the Department of culture and language development of Atyrau region, A. Zholamanov, who wished the participants success.

The plenary session of the conference was moderated by Doctor of historical sciences, professor, director of the Research Institute "History, archaeology, and ethnology of the Caspian sea named after Kh.B. Tabildiyev" S. Sapanov. The speakers included Doctor of historical sciences, leading researcher at the Institute of history named after Sh. Marjani (Republic of Tatarstan) I. Izmaylov, who made a presentation titled "The process of urbanization in the JochiUlus (Golden Horde): problems and a new perspective".The candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher at the department of medieval archaeology at the A.Kh. Khalikov Institute of archaeology, I. Volkov made a presentation titled 'Depiction of the Northern Caspian coast on medieval maps and the dubiety of the name 'Laeti' for the settlement of Aktobe'",candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher at the R.B. Suleymenov Institute of oriental studies, E. Uzhkenov, and candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher at the Sh. Valikhanov Institute of history and ethnology, G. Shotanov presented with a report titled 'The Golden Horde settlement of Aktobe in the context of European cartographic tradition of the XIV-XVII centuries'". The candidate of historical sciences, Head of the Sh. Marjani Institute of history of the republic of Tatarstan and the centre for the study of the Golden Horde and Tatar Khanates named after M.A. Usmanov, I. Mirgaleyev presented with a report titled 'Dynastic crisis in the Golden Horde during the turmoil of the 1360s-1370s and Urus Khan'", candidate of historical sciences, associate professor at the A.M. Gorky Institute of literature, A. Pachkalov presented with a report titled “On some features of monetary circulation in the Northern Caspian region during the period of the Golden Horde”.The doctor of historical sciences, professor, chief researcher at the Institute of archaeology and anthropology of Al-Farabi Kazakh national university, M. Yeleuov made a presentation titled “Study of the Golden Horde city of AktobeLaeti”. The candidate of historical sciences, professor at Abaykazakh national pedagogical university, B. Zhumagulova made a presentation titled 'History of Atyrau region in recent research'". The candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher at the Sh. Valikhanov Institute of history and ethnology G. Shotanov, made a presentation titled “Study of the Golden Horde settlement of Aktobe: current state and perspectives'".

Additionally, among the presenters were doctor of historical sciences, professor, director of the research institute "History, archaeology, and ethnology of the Caspian sea named after Kh.B. Tabildiyev" S. Sapanov, candidate of historical sciences, senior researcher at the Atyrau regional local history museum M. Kassenov, master of humanities, researcher at the research institute "History, archaeology, and ethnology of the Caspian sea named after Kh.B. Tabildiyev" of Atyrau university named after Kh. Dosmukhamedov A. Abdulov presented with a report titled -"Current issues in the methodological foundations of studying Atyrau region". The chief inspector of the state historical and cultural museum-reserve “Saraychik”, A. Turaruly made a presentation titled “On the name of the city Aktobe and objects found during excavations”. The master of humanities, researcher at the research institute 'History, archaeology, and ethnology of the Caspian sea named after Kh.B. Tabylidiyev' at Kh. DosmukhamedovAtyrau university, S. Mollakanagatuly made a presentation titled “Ethnographic data related to Kazakhstan in the works of Mahmud Kashgari: (The Caspian region and the city of Taraz)”.The master of humanities, director of the Atyrau regional local history museum, M. Kipiyev made a presentation titled “History of Atyrau: on the 'fortress-city' built in 1595”.
