In the period from May 29 to July 17, archaeological excavations organized by the Atyrau Regional Museum of Local History were carried out on the territory of the Taskeshu caravanserai.
On March 24, 2023, earthworks were carried out on the basis of the License "Conducting archaeological work on monuments of history and culture", received from the State Institution of the Committee of Culture of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Republic of Kazakhstan by the Atyrau Regional Museum of Local History on March 24, 2023.
The excavations were led by Marat Kasenov, candidate of historical sciences. Researchers from the local history museum of the Atyrau region also took part in them, and workers from the Kenbai village were involved in the excavation work. About 30 people participated in total.
Caravanserai Taskeshu is a medieval monument located on the left bank of the Sagyz River, 16 km southwest of the village of Kenbay, Makat district, Atyrau region.
In the era of the Golden Horde, this historical complex served trade caravans on the old Nogai caravan route from Saraichik to Central Asia.
On the basis of archaeological research, the gate part of the caravanserai and the palace premises located in the eastern and northern parts (14 rooms, 3 Sufi towers, tandoor ovens) were completely opened, and soil was collected on a total area of 800 sq.m. The gates of the caravanserai were completely open.
In addition, during excavations from the territory of the caravanserai, about 30 coins of the Golden Horde (silver, bronze), including (4 silver), fragments of ceramic vessels (Toktamys Khan and Uzbek Khan), fragments of beads, pieces of chigir, standard Golden Horde bricks with various traces.
Houses dating back to the Golden Horde period were found 1.5 km north of the Taskeshu caravanserai in the old channel of the Sagiz. Local residents of the Taskeshu caravanserai could live there. In that area, 5 silver coins were found, and also bronze coins. The coins belong to the khans of the Golden Horde.
